We take a lot of things for granted everyday. Gravity. The brakes on our cars. The antennas in our cellphones. Without any of those things, life just wouldn’t be the same. Actually, we could do without some gravity, but we damn sure need our cellphone antennas! Unfortunately for several major cellphone manufacturers, the antennas they’ve been packing into our mobile phones have apparently been treading on IP from a Spanish company called Fractus.
Samsung, LG, RIM, Pantech, Kyocera, Palm, HTC, Sharp, UTStarcom, and Sanyo are all being sued by Fractus for allegedly infringing on a total of 9 patents relating to multi-band cellular antenna technologies. Fractus hasn’t come forward with details on the patent infringements or exactly what kind of damages the company is looking to get. If they are found to have been violated, Fractus stands to make a good load of money with their multi-band antenna patents.
