Motorola’s Moto X successor, the Moto X+1 is back in the headlines today as a placeholder for the phantom smartphone was spotted on Motorola’s MotoMaker website. Of course, the placeholder has been taken down by Motorola, just moments after this exploit was discovered.
The Moto X+1 placeholder was discovered by changing the URL of the Moto X customization page on MotoMaker. Upon changing part of the URL from FLEXR1 (the code for the Moto X) to FLEXR2, a button appeared with the text, “Moto X+1 Details.” That pretty much confirms the name of Motorola’s Moto X successor.
Sorry folks, no pictures or other details were found by messing with the URL. We don’t know much about the device either, aside from the name. As the device will be cut from the cloth of the Moto X, we can expect to see a device with mid-range specs and a ton of tricked out software features. A recent leak suggests that the Moto X+1 could come touting a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 800 processor, a 5.2 inch full HD screen, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage, which sounds about right for a Moto X follow-up. Sure, Motorola just changed hands from Google to Lenovo, but that deal is still being finalized, meaning that the Moto X+1 was developed under the watchful all-seeing eye of Google.
It may be a while before we see anything official from Motorola about the Moto X+1. Motorola is channeling the company’s energy into its more affordable options, the Moto G and the upcoming Moto E, which is expected to be announced at an event on May 13th. While the Moto X is my no means a flop for the company, the affordable Moto G has been posting impressive sales while Moto X sales have slumped a bit.
