Former Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer to buy NBA’s L.A. Clippers for $2 billion

Not exactly a mobile news, but interesting nevertheless.

Now that it’s a former CEO of Microsoft, Steve Ballmer needs a new hobby and a way to spend all that cash. And he’s apparently turning his attention to sports, having agreed to acquire NBA team L.A. Clippers for a cool $2 billion.

The entire sales process was a bit of a mess in which the team’s current owner, Donald Sterling, hasn’t participated. Earlier he was caught making racist comments that insulted his own team, as well as LeBron James. We shouldn’t be surprised though since Sterling was declared mentally incapacitated by experts, allowing his wife Shelly to sell the team without requiring her husband’s approval.

For those who count, Ballmer’s bid topped a $1.6 billion offer from music mogul David Geffen. And that’s apparently a good news for the league with sports celebrities like Magic Johnson and Pat Carroll tweeting their excitement and pleasure at having Ballmer own the team.

Another tech guy owning an NBA team is Mark Cuban who controls Dallas Mavericks.
