Apple has recently filed for patent that describes an even smarter Smart Cover for iPad.
According to AppleInsider, which caught the filing with the USPTO, with this cover the Cupertino company will be able to show notifications on the Smart Cover itself. This in turn will instantly notify users of incoming text messages, emails and other alerts without unlocking the iPad.
The patent goes by the name of “Integrated visual notification system in an accessory device,” with the provided image resembling the HTC Dot View Case for HTC One M8. The filing describes two ways to push notifications, either by using cover’s built-in LEDs or light emitted from the display; or by relying on translucent / selectively transparent materials. As an added feat, users would be able to control the level of illuminations from an accompanying app.
In some cases the illumination states can be human readable. For example, the illumination elements can form recognizable words or symbols. In other cases a series of lights can be understood by a user to signify a specific operating state.
Sounds pretty darn cool and we gotta wonder why it takes Apple to show the world how to make a smart cover for tablets…
