Google just announced a new solution for emerging markets, Android One. Android One is both a hardware and software solution which will bring affordable smartphones loaded with stock Android to the next billion smartphone owners. Android One is a hardware reference platform created by Google which OEMs and device manufacturers can take advantage of. On the software side, Android One dictates that a stock version of Android must be used, giving Google a direct path to ensure that users get the most updated versions of Google software.

Android One devices will launch in India in the fall, with devices coming from manufacturer Micromax, Karbonn and Spice. Expect Android One devices to come with a price point of under $100.
