GE’s Link LED lightbulbs can be controlled with an app

General Electric is joining the smart bulb market with its Link LED lightbulb product, which allows users to control lighting within their homes using a smartphone or tablet running the new Wink app.

Available for iOS and Android devices, Wink will enable users to remotely access their Link lights from anywhere in the world. In addition, the application provides an easy way to dim or increase the lighting, as well as the ability to schedule when lights can be turned on and off.

According to GE, Link eliminates the need for expensive add-ons typically associated with connected devices, making it an “easy and cost-effective way for consumers to light up their smart homes.”

The company has already started taking pre-orders for the Link LED lightbulbs. They will be go on sale at Home Depot stores later in the fall with prices starting from $15 per bulb.

GE is by no means the only company looking into the smart bulb market; earlier we’ve reported that LG and Samsung have also unveiled similar products…
