Apple looking into ways to change iPhone's security level and UI settings based on user's location

Apple has recently filed for a patent that would enable changing of iPhone’s security level and UI based on user’s location. Titled “Location-sensitive security levels and setting profiles based on detected location,” the patent explains how different use cases would prompt additional security measures on the iPhone.

For instance, when you’re at home and connected to your own Wi-Fi network, you wouldn’t be bothered with extra security. In sharp contrast, when you’re using a public Wi-Fi hotspot, iPhone would require your fingerprint to let you browse the web, access email and calendar. Similarly, certain locations would see the new UI; like when you’re in a car or at work when you may need a different set of apps and services.

To make this possible, Apple would look into cell towers, Wi-Fi networks and GPS to determine your location, and raise or lower security level and tweak the UI. The idea here gotta have something to do with the iPhone in the enterprise setting with major companies requiring its employees to run only previously approved apps on their smartphones. In that sense, this does sound a little creepy, but I guess that’s just the world we live in… No word when this capability will hit the iOS, though.
