Say it Ain’t So! @evleaks Says Goodbye, Announces Retirement

Everyone loves a good leak, and today one of the industry’s most accurate and reliable leakers, @evleaks has announced that he’s calling it quits. The man behind the @evleaks, Evan Blass has outed some of the hottest devices of the last few years, including the Moto 360, Galaxy S4 Active, HTC M8 Prime and countless other devices. Blass dispensed his leaks and analysis via twitter initially, launching his own web site. Blass’ tweets would often lead to headlines spanning tech blogs worldwide.

So, why retirement? Blass cites monetization and health as the culprits.  Blass was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, and the money coming from his enterprises just aren’t enough to cover his bills. It’s more about the future – Blass wants to make sure he can sustain a decent living, complete with medical coverage. And who can blame him?

It all adds up to an unsustainable living, and with a progressively worsening disease, I need to make sure I can prepare myself better for the future, financially. – Evan Blass, via TNW

Since @evleaks’ audience is mostly tech-savvy individuals and tech press who often use ad blocking software, he was unable to raise much money from ad revenue on his site. Blass experimented with offering sponsored tweets, in which sponsors could have their links tweeted by the famous @evleaks handle and took donations as well.

So goodbye @evleaks, thanks for everything! You will be missed, and all of us here wish you luck in your future.
