Ever since it moved from a device to platform maker, Ouya has been looking for partners which would implement the gaming platform into their devices. Mad Catz was one of the first companies to join the scheme with its M.O.J.O. console shipping with the OUYA set of services preloaded.

That was just a start as now we have Xiaomi potentially going to bed with Ouya, according to a Reuters report.

Ouya Chief Executive Julie Uhrman said details are still getting hashed out but it’s likely Ouya will get a dedicated channel on Xiaomi software installed on those devices, on which gamers can shop for and download a selection of its independently developed games later this year, Uhrman said.

So this is still not officially official, but chances are this is going to happen with both companies benefiting at the end. Ouya would get to reach many new customers, while Xiaomi would get a catalog of games, making its devices more appealing to potential buyers. Moreover, the “Apple of China” would also get a cut of all the sales from the Ouya store.

So yes, this is a win-win scenario though we have to wonder what Google is thinking about it. We’re pretty confident they’ll want to make their brand-new Android TV platform to the “hands” of more partners across Asia. Until that happens, Xiaomi and Ouya are free to make some money. 😉
