Remember the time when Samsung was Nokia’s archenemy? Well, those days are behind us and today we’re looking at a very different mobile market in which Samsung is the king while the Finnish company doesn’t make phones any longer.
In this new reality where Nokia got to keep its maps division, we’re not surprised to see the Finns launching their HERE maps for Samsung smartphones. The Korean giant, after all, sells more phones than any other handset maker in the world.
The application has been released in beta and is available through seldom-used Samsung Apps Galaxy Apps store. Requirements include a device running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean or newer, and at least 1GB of RAM. Users get to benefit from downloadable maps and offline navigation — that will help them avoid hefty data roaming fees — as well as support for various map views.
Those who have tried the HERE app — we haven’t — say it seems smooth and stable for a beta app. So if you’ve been looking for an alternative to Google Maps, here’s your chance to do so. 😉
