Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 leaked specs suggest price jump and major camera upgrade

Xiaomi’s next foldable phone is shaping up to be a significant upgrade over its predecessor, but it might come with a steeper price tag. Fresh leaks suggest the Mix Fold 5 will pack impressive specs including a 200MP camera and 6,000mAh battery, though buyers may need to pay around 10% more than the previous model.

The timing couldn’t be more important for Xiaomi. As Samsung dominates the global foldable market and Chinese brands like Honor and Oppo push harder into the space, Xiaomi needs the Mix Fold 5 to stand out. The company is betting on premium features and its own custom silicon to differentiate from the competition.

According to leaked information from Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station, the Mix Fold 5 prototype continues to feature a large 7.5-inch to 7.6-inch foldable display with what’s described as seamless crease technology. The device reportedly adopts a minimalist design inspired by runway aesthetics, suggesting Xiaomi wants a cleaner and more refined look for its next-generation foldable.

The camera system appears to be a major focus for this generation. The leak confirms a 200MP primary camera, which matches earlier database listings pointing to a Samsung S5KHP5 sensor. This would be a substantial upgrade in resolution compared to most current foldables, which typically max out around 50MP to 108MP for their main cameras.

Other key specs include:

  • 6,000mAh battery with wireless charging support
  • Full water resistance rating
  • Side-mounted fingerprint scanner
  • Xiaomi’s custom Xring O3 chipset (based on earlier reports)

The Xring O3 represents Xiaomi’s continued push into custom silicon, following companies like Apple and Google. While details about performance improvements over the previous Xring O1 remain unclear, having an in-house chip gives Xiaomi more control over optimization and features.

The pricing news may be less welcome for potential buyers. The Mix Fold 5 is expected to launch at around 10,000 yuan (approximately $1,380), representing roughly a 10% increase over the Mix Fold 4’s debut price of 8,999 yuan. This price hike reflects broader trends in the foldable market, where manufacturers are adding premium features but passing costs onto consumers.

This pricing strategy makes sense from Xiaomi’s perspective. Foldables remain a premium category with relatively low volumes compared to traditional smartphones. Companies can afford to charge more because early adopters are typically willing to pay for cutting-edge technology. The question is whether the Mix Fold 5’s improvements justify the higher cost.

Xiaomi hasn’t officially announced a launch date for the Mix Fold 5, though earlier reports suggested a third quarter 2026 release. With the prototype reportedly nearing final design and hardware configuration, more details should emerge in the coming weeks. The company will likely want to time the launch strategically around major tech events or ahead of competitor releases.

The foldable smartphone market continues to evolve rapidly, with manufacturers trying to solve durability concerns while adding features that justify premium pricing. Xiaomi’s approach with the Mix Fold 5 appears focused on camera quality and battery life – two areas where many current foldables still lag behind traditional flagships.
