OPPO Reno 16 and Reno 16c launch in India with triple 50MP cameras and a quirky new accessory

OPPO has launched two new phones in India: the Reno 16 and the Reno 16c. The new lineup arrives roughly six months after the Reno 15 series, which hit Indian shelves in January 2026. Both phones run Android 16 out of the box and come loaded with AI features that go well beyond what most mid-range phones offer.

Alongside the two phones, OPPO also introduced the Bubble, a small magnetic accessory with its own AMOLED screen that clips onto the back of the Reno 16. It is a genuinely unusual product for this price range, and it signals that OPPO is trying harder to stand out in a crowded mid-range market.

The Reno 16 starts at Rs 61,999, while the Reno 16c comes in at Rs 46,999. Both are available through the OPPO Store, Flipkart, and Amazon. The Bubble accessory is priced at Rs 7,999 and goes on sale from July 9th.

The mid-range Android segment in India is intensely competitive right now. Brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus are all pushing strong camera specs and AI features at similar price points. OPPO’s response here is to go all-in on cameras, software intelligence, and a bit of personality with the Bubble accessory.

The Reno 16 has a compact 6.32-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3,600 nits. That screen size is deliberately smaller than what most phones in this range offer, which makes it a practical choice for people who find large phones uncomfortable to use one-handed. Under the hood, it runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, the same processor used in the Reno 15, so performance should be broadly similar.

Where the Reno 16 makes a clearer case for itself is in the camera department. The rear setup includes:

  • 50MP Sony LYT-600 primary sensor
  • 50MP ultra-wide sensor
  • 50MP Samsung JN5 telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom

A 50MP front camera rounds things out. Having three 50MP sensors across the board is unusual even for phones priced higher than this. The telephoto lens in particular is a strong addition, since many phones at this price skip it entirely or pair it with a much lower-resolution sensor.

OPPO has also added a Dual Flash System to improve low-light photography, along with software tools like AI Remix Collage, Pop Cam, Popout 2.0, and Dual-View Video 2.0. The phone has a 6,700mAh battery with 80W SUPERVOOC fast charging, just 200mAh more than the Reno 15. That is not a dramatic upgrade, but the battery life should be solid for a full day of use.

The Reno 16c is the more affordable option, with a larger 6.57-inch FHD+ AMOLED display, a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chip, and an even bigger 7,000mAh battery. Its camera setup includes a 50MP primary sensor, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 50MP telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom. The inclusion of a telephoto lens is a notable step up from the Reno 15c, which did not have one at all.

Here is a quick look at how the two phones compare:

  • Display: Reno 16 has a 6.32-inch panel at 3,600 nits; Reno 16c has a 6.57-inch panel at 1,400 nits
  • Processor: Reno 16 uses Snapdragon 7 Gen 4; Reno 16c uses Dimensity 7300
  • Cameras: Reno 16 has three 50MP sensors; Reno 16c has 50MP + 8MP + 50MP
  • Battery: Reno 16 has 6,700mAh; Reno 16c has 7,000mAh; both charge at 80W

Both phones carry IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance, which is thorough coverage and better than what many competitors offer at these prices.

On the software side, both phones run ColorOS 16.1 with Android 16. The AI features are a highlight. The AI Snap Key is a physical button on the Reno 16, similar to the action button concept seen on OnePlus and Apple devices, and it lets users instantly clip and save on-screen content to a feature called Mind Space. Mind Pilot combines Gemini, Perplexity, and ChatGPT into a single assistant interface, so users do not have to switch between apps depending on what they need to look up. There is also AI Bill Manager, which reads receipts or voice notes and automatically logs and categorises expenses with real-time currency conversion. Additional tools cover menu translation, voice translation, and document scanning.

The Bubble accessory deserves its own mention. It is a 1.73-inch AMOLED screen with 600 nits of brightness that attaches magnetically to the back of the Reno 16. It works as a secondary viewfinder, which means users can take selfies using the more powerful rear cameras by seeing themselves on the Bubble’s screen. It also supports custom wallpapers and interactive virtual pets. The Bubble has a 560mAh battery and an IP54 rating. At Rs 7,999, it is clearly an optional extra rather than a necessity, but it adds a layer of fun that is rare in this segment.

Pricing for the full lineup is as follows:

  • Reno 16 (8GB + 256GB): Rs 61,999
  • Reno 16 (12GB + 256GB): Rs 67,999
  • Reno 16c (8GB + 128GB): Rs 46,999
  • Reno 16c (8GB + 256GB): Rs 49,999
  • Reno 16c (12GB + 256GB): Rs 55,999
  • OPPO Bubble: Rs 7,999

The Reno 16 makes the most sense for buyers who want a compact phone with a serious camera system and do not want to compromise on software features. The Reno 16c is the better pick for anyone prioritising battery life and a lower price, while still getting a capable telephoto camera. That said, the Reno 15 series is still available and likely at reduced prices now, so comparing the two generations side by side before buying is worth the effort.
