Redmi just launched the Note 17 series in China, and the phones are already generating buzz well beyond the Chinese market. Leaks are now circulating about how the lineup will look when it hits India and other global markets, and the picture is getting clearer thanks to a tipster who dug through HyperOS code.
According to Gizmochina, tipster Kacper Skrzypek found references in HyperOS code pointing to a device with model number 2602IPC8I that will carry the Poco M8 Power name in India. That same device had already shown up in the BIS certification database back in May, which adds some credibility to the claim. A separate model number, 26021RN18I, appears to be the Redmi-branded version for the Indian market.
The big takeaway here is that Poco appears to be positioning the M8 Power as a rebranded Redmi Note 17, but only for India. There may not be a global Poco version at all, which would be a departure from how Poco typically handles international launches.
Battery capacity is one area where the regional variants seem to diverge. The Indian Redmi Note 17 is expected to keep the same 8,000mAh battery as the Chinese model, but the global version looks set to ship with a 7,700mAh cell instead. That is still a large battery by any standard, but it is a notable difference. The Redmi Note 17 Pro tells a similar story: the Chinese model packs a 9,000mAh battery, India reportedly keeps that same capacity, while the global version is said to carry an 8,340mAh pack.
These are not small phones chasing thin profiles, and the specs back that up. Based on current reports, the Poco M8 Power and Redmi Note 17 for global and Indian markets are expected to include:
- 7-inch Samsung AMOLED display with FHD+ resolution and up to 1,800 nits of brightness
- Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 chipset
- 50-megapixel primary camera
- 45W fast charging and 22.5W reverse wired charging
The Redmi Note 17 Pro is a step up across the board. Its global and Indian variants are expected to ship with:
- 6.83-inch OLED display with 1.5K resolution and up to 3,500 nits of brightness
- Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chipset
- 50-megapixel primary camera
- 67W fast charging and 22.5W reverse wired charging
The trend toward massive batteries in mid-range phones has been picking up pace, and Xiaomi is clearly leaning into it hard with this lineup. A 7-inch display paired with an 8,000mAh battery puts the Poco M8 Power in territory that blurs the line between phone and small tablet. For users who prioritize screen size and endurance over slim design, that could be a compelling offer at a mid-range price point.
None of this is confirmed yet, and launch dates have not been announced. But with BIS certification already done and HyperOS references surfacing, the Poco M8 Power and global Redmi Note 17 series are likely not far off.
