iQOO 16T rumoured to pack a 200MP camera and a wild hybrid cooling system

A 200MP main camera with a sensor larger than anything iQOO has shipped before, combined with a cooling system that uses both liquid and air to keep temperatures in check. That’s what the iQOO 16T is reportedly being tested with right now, and honestly, it’s a lot to process before the phone even has an official launch date.

According to 91Mobiles, the details come from Smart Pikachu, a Weibo tipster with a decent track record, who posted that iQOO is currently testing the 16T with a hybrid liquid-and-air cooling setup. The post also mentions a 200MP primary camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor. That’s a bigger sensor than the one on the iQOO 15T, which is a meaningful step up if the rumour holds. Bigger sensors generally capture more light, which means better performance in low light and more flexibility when shooting. So that part of the spec sheet is genuinely interesting.

The cooling setup is where things get really curious. Earlier leaks had pointed to a built-in fan inside the phone, and it’s not clear yet whether that fan is part of this liquid-and-air hybrid system or a separate idea that was tested at a different stage. Either way, iQOO seems to be taking thermal management very seriously with this one. That fits a pattern we’ve been seeing across the Android market, where performance-focused phones are pushing chips so hard that basic heat pipes just aren’t cutting it anymore. A fan inside a phone still feels weird, but iQOO’s gaming-oriented audience is probably more open to that kind of trade-off than most.

The chipset situation is also worth paying attention to. A previous leak suggested iQOO was testing two versions of the 16T, one running Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 and another built around MediaTek’s Dimensity 9600. That kind of dual-prototype testing is common when brands are hedging their bets on chip supply or pricing. Whichever version reaches shelves, both chips are expected to be genuinely fast, and combined with the advanced cooling, iQOO is clearly positioning this phone for people who stress-test their hardware.

There is one notable gap in the spec sheet though. Smart Pikachu mentioned that the 16T may not include a periscope telephoto camera. That’s a real trade-off, and not a small one. At the price point a phone like this would likely carry, skipping a periscope lens feels like a strange choice. A 200MP sensor does allow for digital cropping that can simulate zoom, but it’s not the same as optical telephoto, and anyone expecting a complete camera system might be underwhelmed by that decision.

  • 200MP main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor
  • Hybrid liquid-and-air cooling system, possibly with a built-in fan
  • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 or Dimensity 9600 chipset options in testing
  • Flat 2K Samsung display reported in earlier leaks
  • No periscope telephoto camera expected

For anyone in India wondering whether to wait for this phone, the honest answer is probably no. iQOO hasn’t launched a T-series device in India since the iQOO 9T back in 2022. The iQOO 15T stayed in China, and there’s no official signal that the 16T will be any different. The ongoing memory shortage makes predicting pricing even harder, and if it does land in India, the combination of a flagship chip, advanced cooling, and high-speed memory could push the price into territory that’s hard to justify against local competition.

Still, for the China market, and for anyone watching where mobile hardware is heading, the iQOO 16T is shaping up to be one of the more interesting phones of the year. Multiple leaks are now pointing in the same direction, which usually means the core details are close to accurate. Whether iQOO can actually deliver on all of it without making the phone a thermal brick or a camera disappointment is the real question.
