A camera setup that punches at its price
The rear camera is a 50-megapixel shooter with an f/1.8 aperture, which is a solid spec for this price range. Wide aperture means better low-light performance, and Xiaomi backs that up with a dedicated Night mode. You also get HDR, Portrait mode, and 1080p video recording at 30fps. There’s also an auxiliary lens alongside the main camera, though Xiaomi hasn’t gone into detail about what it actually does, which is a little frustrating.
On the front, there’s an 8-megapixel selfie camera with HDR, Portrait, Night mode, and a soft-light ring. That last feature is genuinely useful for late-night video calls when you don’t want to look like a ghost on screen. So the camera story here is reasonably complete for a budget phone, even if it’s not going to challenge anything in the mid-range.

Budget 5G phones are becoming the real battleground for smartphone makers right now. As 5G networks roll out across Southeast Asia, South Asia, and beyond, there’s a massive wave of buyers looking to upgrade from 4G without spending big. The Redmi 17C 5G sits right in that sweet spot.
The S$279 Singapore price translates to around Rs 19,000 in Indian rupees, which puts it in a fiercely competitive bracket. Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed pricing or availability for India or other markets yet. But given Redmi’s history of aggressive pricing in India especially, it’s not hard to imagine this landing there soon at a similar or lower price point.
