A phone with a back panel that charges up from sunlight and then literally glows in the dark. That’s either a genuinely fun trick or the kind of thing you show off once and forget about. But with the Poco F9 Pro, that gimmick is almost beside the point, because the rest of the spec sheet is doing some heavy lifting on its own.
Poco has launched the F9 Pro globally alongside the F9 Ultra, and the F9 Pro is clearly positioned as the gaming-first option in the lineup. It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series, built on a 3nm process with third-gen Oryon CPU cores clocking up to 4.6GHz. That’s top-tier silicon, and Poco isn’t stopping there. The phone also includes a VisionBoost D8 graphics chip, which handles frame interpolation up to 185 frames per second, plus Game HDR and AI super resolution. Real-world results will vary depending on whether a game actually supports these features, but for titles that do, you’re looking at noticeably smoother, sharper visuals.
The display backs all of that up. Poco is pushing 16,000 dimming levels, full-range DC dimming, and a minimum brightness of just 1 nit. It also carries TUV Rheinland certifications for flicker-free operation, low blue light at the hardware level, and circadian-friendly viewing. That last one matters more than people give it credit for, especially if you’re gaming late into the night.
On the camera side, the F9 Pro has a 200-megapixel main shooter with optical image stabilization, a 50-megapixel floating telephoto at a 60mm equivalent with 2.5x optical zoom, and an 8-megapixel ultrawide. The telephoto can focus as close as 10 centimeters, which is a nice detail for macro-style shots. Selfies are handled by a 32-megapixel front camera. It’s a well-rounded setup, and the telephoto is a welcome addition to the series.
Audio is another area where Poco put in real effort. The F9 Pro has symmetrical stereo speakers tuned with Bose, offering Dynamic and Balanced sound profiles along with volume-level tuning to keep things clear whether you’re at 20% or max volume. Bose-tuned audio on a mid-to-flagship Android is still a relatively rare thing, and it’s a genuine selling point for anyone who actually uses their phone speakers.
The phone comes in White and Aurora Green. The Aurora Green version has that photoluminescent back panel that absorbs light and glows afterward. It’s a fun party trick. The phone also has an IP68 rating, so dust and water resistance is covered.
Why does this matter? Because Poco keeps showing that you don’t need to spend flagship money to get flagship performance. The F9 Pro fits into a broader trend of Chinese phone makers pushing premium specs at aggressive prices, and that pressure benefits every consumer, regardless of what brand they end up buying.
