No word yet on whether other regions are getting it at the same time, but a wider rollout across other markets should follow in the coming days or weeks.
So what’s actually in the update? Quite a bit, honestly. The Quick Settings panel has been redesigned, and you can now resize and rearrange tiles the way you want. You can also choose whether larger tiles show short descriptions. It’s a small thing, but the old layout felt rigid, so this is a welcome fix. Screen recording also got a proper upgrade. You can now record either the full screen or just a single app, and you can capture device audio alongside microphone audio at the same time. The AI Camera Assistant in Photo mode now supports up to three saved custom looks, which you can rename and switch between on the fly. Sony’s camera software has always been a strong point of the Xperia lineup, and giving users more control over their shooting styles is a smart move. The update also includes the new Desktop mode introduced with Android 17, plus the “Wallpaper and style” feature that adds new clock designs and wallpaper options.
But here’s the bigger picture. Android update speed has been a sore spot for the platform for years. Google has pushed hard with Project Treble and longer security commitments, and manufacturers are slowly getting better. Sony shipping a major OS update within four months of launch is exactly the kind of behavior that should be rewarded. It builds trust, and right now trust is something the premium Android market badly needs.
