A 2K display and a 165Hz refresh rate on the same phone. That combination has never existed before, and iQOO just made it real. The company announced the iQOO 16’s display details at a joint Samsung Display event, confirming the phone will be the first in the world to ship with this spec combo. The panel uses Samsung’s new 2K LEAD 2.0 technology, developed specifically through a partnership between the two companies.
And this wasn’t just a licensing deal. iQOO and Samsung co-developed the whole thing, including a custom high-refresh-rate IC built for the panel and a dedicated production line reserved for iQOO’s flagship devices. That kind of deep manufacturing commitment is unusual, and it signals that iQOO is serious about owning the display conversation in the premium Android space. The iQOO 15 already made noise with its original LEAD OLED panel, and this is clearly the next step in that direction.
The color performance numbers are worth paying attention to. The panel covers 1.24 times the P3 color gamut, and iQOO says color uniformity has improved by 39.6% over the previous generation, with brightness uniformity up by 22.3%. The company also uses a sub-pixel-level color and brightness compensation algorithm, and it’s claiming a color accuracy of plus or minus 0.001. That’s an impressive number on paper. Independent testing will tell us how it holds up in real use, but at minimum, iQOO is clearly trying to compete on display quality, not just raw specs.
The iQOO 16 is also the first Android phone to feature Samsung’s M16 luminescent material. This was hinted at in leaks back in August, but now it’s official. The M16 material is Samsung’s latest generation, and getting first access to it is a meaningful flex. It affects how the display produces light at a fundamental level, which ties directly into brightness and efficiency.

- Full-brightness DC dimming and PWM dimming up to 3300Hz
- Gaming glare protection mode
The touch specs are worth calling out specifically. A 5000Hz instantaneous sampling rate is the kind of number that sounds like marketing until you’re actually playing a competitive mobile game and every millisecond counts. Whether that translates to a noticeably better feel will depend on software too, but paired with the Q-flex latency tech, iQOO is clearly positioning this phone as a serious gaming device.
So why does this matter beyond the spec sheet? Because the display has quietly become the most competitive battleground in flagship Android. Brands like OnePlus, Samsung, and Xiaomi are all pushing hard on panels, and iQOO locking in a first-mover advantage on 2K plus 165Hz gives it a real headline to own. Not every consumer will notice the difference in everyday use, but for enthusiasts and mobile gamers, this is exactly the kind of leap that moves phones. Pricing and global availability for the iQOO 16 haven’t been confirmed yet, but expect more details soon.
