Most small business owners have a perfectly capable computer in their pocket. They just don’t know it yet. Talus and Samsung Electronics America have announced ReadyPoint, an app that turns Galaxy phones and tablets into a complete point-of-sale system. No dedicated terminal, no clunky hardware sitting on the counter. Just your Galaxy device doing more work than you probably expected from it.
ReadyPoint is built to handle a wide range of business types. Boutiques, specialty retail, field service workers, contractors — the platform is designed to flex across industries rather than lock you into one specific setup. That’s actually a big deal. Most POS solutions are built with one type of business in mind, which means everyone else ends up paying for features they’ll never use while missing the ones they actually need.
The app is powered partly by Ingenico, which brings SoftPOS Tap-to-Pay to the mix. So customers can tap their card or phone to pay directly on your Galaxy device. No card reader dongle required. And because it’s built on Galaxy hardware, businesses that are already in the Samsung ecosystem don’t need to buy into a whole new stack of equipment just to take payments on the go.
The features Talus is pushing with ReadyPoint include:
- Tap-to-Pay via Ingenico’s SoftPOS technology
- A full business operating suite, not just payment processing
- Support for retail, field service, and specialty industry use cases
- Compatibility with Galaxy phones and tablets
- Distribution through Talus’ existing reseller channel
ReadyPoint was shown off at the Western States Acquirers Association Annual Conference in Palm Springs earlier this month, and the soft launch has already wrapped. The platform is now available through Talus’ reseller network, which means businesses can actually get their hands on it right now rather than sitting on a waitlist.
This fits into a much bigger shift that’s been building for a few years. Dedicated POS hardware is expensive, bulky, and often overkill for smaller operations. Software-based payment solutions running on consumer hardware have been eating into that market steadily, and Samsung clearly sees Galaxy devices as a serious play in the business space. This isn’t the first time Samsung has pushed its phones as enterprise tools, but pairing with a payments platform this way puts Galaxy hardware right at the checkout counter, literally.
For small businesses especially, the pitch is simple: you already own the phone, so why buy another device just to take payments? If ReadyPoint delivers on what Talus is promising, that’s a genuinely practical argument. The real test will be reliability and support once real businesses start running it daily. But the foundation looks solid, and the timing makes sense. Businesses are already comfortable with tap-to-pay. Getting them comfortable with a phone as the terminal is the next logical step.
