The company has launched a Red Transparent Special Edition of both the Xiaomi 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, and the whole thing is drenched in crimson. Not subtle. Not minimalist. Just full-on red, and honestly? It works.
This isn’t a new phone. The internals are identical to the standard 18 Pro models, so what you’re really paying for is the look. And what a look it is. Xiaomi used a micron-level film process to create a three-dimensional embossed texture on the back panel. It gives the surface a raised, almost tactile quality that goes well beyond a simple color swap. There’s real craft here, not just a coat of paint.
The red theme runs all the way through the package. Where the two models split is the chipset. The 18 Pro runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, and the Pro Max steps up to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6. Both are 2nm chips, and both are among the most powerful mobile processors available right now. The special editions come in a single configuration: 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.1 storage. No entry-level option here. A circular cold-pump cooling system handles thermals, which matters a lot when you’re pushing hardware at this level.
Pricing is steep. The 18 Pro Red Transparent Edition is 9,999 yuan, roughly $1,492, and the Pro Max sits at 10,999 yuan, around $1,642. That’s a premium over the standard models, which is expected for a limited special edition. Xiaomi has also confirmed that the 18 Pro series is coming globally this year, so international buyers may eventually get a shot at this version too.
The broader trend here is worth paying attention to. Transparent and limited-edition hardware is becoming a real differentiator in the premium smartphone space. Consumers at this price point want something that feels exclusive, and a bold red transparent design with matching accessories does exactly that.
