Honor doesn’t usually beat the big names on sales charts. This time it just might have. The Magic 9 series has passed every other Android flagship released in 2026 in cumulative sales, and that’s a claim worth paying attention to.
The number comes from Honor Global CMO Guan Haitao, who said the figure runs through week 42 and counts every Android flagship launched this year, no matter when it came out. Guan also said daily sales are closing in on the second-ranked product across Honor’s entire lineup, which he calls a first for the company. Tipster Digital Chat Station backs it up with activation data: 390,000 combined activations across the three Magic 9 models as of week 42, the highest among new Android flagships.
The phones went on sale right after the September 28 launch in China. During the National Day holiday, the series ranked first in Android phone sales, and several versions sold out. Honor credits two things: ARRI-tuned cameras and a price that undercuts many rivals. Honestly, that combo makes sense. Camera bragging rights get attention, but a lower price closes the sale.
There are three models: the Magic 9, the Magic 9 Super Edition, and the Magic 9 Pro Max. Pricing starts at 4,499 yuan (about $675), and national subsidies bring it down to 3,999 yuan (about $600). That’s a real gap against the usual flagship asking price.
The Pro Max is the one Honor leans on hardest for imaging. It has a dual 200MP camera system developed with ARRI, CIPA 8.0-rated stabilization, and Honor’s own Yuguang H1 imaging chip. Honor says it rebuilt the video pipeline too, adding the ARRI LogC3 curve, which the company describes as the closest to the look of film. You can also import all 87 ARRI Look profiles and shoot with a Hollywood-style grade baked in, no editing needed. Honor also calls this its most powerful flagship ever.
Is the film-look talk a bit of marketing gloss? Probably some of it. Plenty of brands slap famous camera names on phones. But a color profile system you can actually use, paired with stabilization this strong, is more than a sticker on the back.
Why does this matter? Flagship Android sales have been a tight race for years, with Xiaomi, Huawei, and Samsung hogging most of the attention. Honor winning on sales, even in one market so far, shows buyers will pick a sharper price and a clear camera story over a bigger brand name. Rivals will notice, and they’ll likely respond with pricing pressure of their own.
Outside China, you’ll have to wait. Honor’s UK and French sites list the series for a January 2027 launch in Europe. There’s no exact date or European pricing yet, but UK shoppers can already register interest. The big question is whether Honor can hold that price edge once the phones cross the border. If it does, Samsung and Xiaomi should be nervous.
