Tech Digest have written an excellent picture-based piece on what they are the five coolest British phones ever made. Given the release recently of three devices to market by British handset firm Onyx (see here), a look back in time seemed kinda the right thing to do.

Sendo X
Ah, poor Sendo – I always remember being at CeBIT in 2003 (I think) and checking out Sendo’s stand. In those days, it was all about the Microsoft Stinger mobile platform, which was the forerunner (of sorts) to the WinMo we have today. Good Times.
Then it all went a bit pear-shaped, as there were delays coming to market, and it all got a bit litigious with Microsoft (you can read about that here).

Anyway, the Sendo X was the first (and only) device that Sendo managed to release with the Series 60 Operating System in it – and was good for it’s time. In the end it didn’t do major volumes with any Operator, and Motorola eventually bought the company – you know the rest from there!
The INQ1
INQ1
The story around INQ is much more positive – they are a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hutchison Whampoa, who also own the Three Operator groups. No surprise to hear that lots of Three people are at INQ now, pushing the envelope with social-connected devices.
Actually INQ have just released two new handsets (see here), but their first device, lauded by press and public alike, was the INQ1 – a very nice little slider which has a ton of social networking features in it.
