The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (aka Bluetooth SIG) is estimating that 23% of all Bluetooth enabled devices shipping in 2010 will use the new 3.0+HS (high speed) specification, and that by 2011 that figure will jump to 61% of devices. Bluetooth 3.0+HS, which Will covered in greater detail in April, uses the 802.11 radio that is already present in most modern smartphones and laptops to enable data transmission at around 24 Mbps, a huge increase when compared to the 2.1 Mbps offered by Bluetooth 2.1+EDR devices. Research firm IMS Research has predicted that by 2013 there will be over 300 million mobile phones using Bluetooth 3.0+HS, 60-70 million computers, and 30-35 million personal media players. Check out the video demo below to see what you’re going to be experiencing shortly:

No word as to when Apple will enable the iPhone to use Bluetooth for anything more than pairing to a Bluetooth headset.
