When a handful of Android modders managed to hack Google’s new Google Maps Navigation and its turn-by-turn GPS navigation service to work outside the US, DROID and MILESTONE users around the world threw up their hands in celebration. Who wouldn’t want to get free GPS navigation directions on their smartphone, after all? But, the celebrations were short-lived. Google has just thwarted hackers’ efforts by blocking the Navigation service to anyone outside US borders.
The good news is that Google’s blocking-move wasn’t too surprising for devs. They’re already working to find a way to re-enable Google Maps Nav for international use.
