Motorola DROID gets the Android 2.1 (Flan) treatment

What, did you expect any different? Following on the secret launch of the Nexus One (aka. Google Phone, aka. GPhone, aka. Passion/Dragon) this past week with the latest Android 2.1 (Flan) operating system in tow, a gaggle of Android developers has managed to port Flan to the Motorola DROID. The process isn’t exactly ironed out yet, and isn’t anywhere near as easy as it was to update the DROID from Android 2.0 to Android 2.0.1 (easy-peasy instructions here), so you’ll really want to wait for a more user friendly port to surface. Sholes.info had porting instructions posted, but has since taken them down and replaced it with a warning that the current 2.1 port will likely leave you in tears.

The prospect of installing a not-quite-ready Android 2.1 ROM on our DROID scares us enough to stay away, we suggest you follow our lead. Flan will officially hit the DROID in due time, it’s just a waiting game at this point. And, you wouldn’t want to lose the “drooiiiid” startup sound, now would you?
