No ‘Donut’ Love for Rogers HTC Dream and Magic

Rogers HTC Dream and Magic owners may be feeling a bit busted after this bit of disappointing news. According to a posting on HTC’s website, which was then confirmed by Rogers, the HTC Dream and Magic will NOT receive an official OS update past Android 1.5. No donut here.

HTC is not currently planning any Android 1.6 upgrades for Rogers Dream or Magic. Android 1.6 was only made available for “Google”-branded devices such as the G1. It is not available for HTC-branded products such as the Dream or Magic, which use Android 1.5. We believe that Android 1.5 is a stable and reliable software platform that delivers a terrific user experience

Sad. That’s all I have to say. When the Dream and Magic launched, the phones were dubbed as part of a ‘revolution’. Well, it appears that if you’re on Rogers and have the Android-powered Magic or Dream, the ‘revolution’ has to hold up at OS 1.5. How disappointing. I know more Android-powered devices will be making their way through Rogers stores, but c’mon Rogers… Toss out the OS upgrade that these users want. You might actually make some of them happy… and happy customers = good business, something you should be mindful of. Especially when you consider how much the competition is heating up on the Canadian carrier scene these days.
