ZTE wants to go beyond its low-cost handset maker image and enter the higher-margin smartphone market. The Chinese company is working round the clock on brand new Android-powered smartphones (not one, but multiple devices) as we speak. In that sense, today we present you 4 ZTE phones that could find its way to the market (possibly even outside China) this year:

  • ZTE Smooth – the Palm Pre like device with Android 1.6, 2.8-inch QVGA display, QWERTY keyboard, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, FM radio, and 3g (UMTS) connectivity.
  • ZTE Blade – a high-end device with 3.5-inch WVGA touchscreen, Android 1.6, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, FM radio and GSM/UMTS connectivity.
  • ZTE Racer – another Android 1.6 phone with 3G, WiFi, GPS, and 2.8-inch QVGA touchscreen.
  • ZTE Mercury – the HTC Hero look-alike with 3.2-inch HVGA display, GPS and EDGE data.

In other words, ZTE is super committed to Android and the only problem seems to be in distribution. As soon as that’s resolved, I’ve no doubts we’ll see ZTE smartphones popping on every corner of Europe and the U.S…
