With the rise of mobile technologies war fronts are expanding to the so called “fourth screen.” Take India and Pakistan for instance – the two countries used to warfare over the region of Kashmir and ever since then their relations never warmed up completely.
Now, with many people in the region embracing mobile technologies, both Pakistan and India are extra cautious over potential information leaks. In real life, this translates in various mobile use bans, prepaid phone control and so on.
India on its end is in the midst of an anti-Pakistan SMS campaign with the goal to discourage its people from making calls to Pakistan. According to reports, whenever a call is made to Pakistan, the caller receives the following text message: “You just made a call to ISD Code 0092 (Pakistan’s international dialling code). We urge you to exercise caution while calling unknown number and sharing personal details as it can be misused.”
Personally I’m against these kind of measures and think India can do much better than that. To be fair, I don’t have a deep knowledge of their relations with Pakistan, but I don’t see this as a way forward. Mixing races and nations is the way to go. A diversified society is the way of the future. 🙂
