Orange has signed three new MVNOs, according to cellular-news.com, – Unicom, Catalyst, and Axis Telecom. All of these have been enabled by an MNVO aggregator – a company going by the name of Transatel. Interestingly, the company already had give MVNO agreements in place.
We don’t have too much more detail, on each MNVO, save for the following:
- Unicom is a fixed line service provider, which is going Mobile by doing B2B Mobile Services
- Catalyst will be providing its mobile services through partners to niche groups (e.g. Students, SMEs)
- Axis Telecom is going to offer SIM-only deals to it’s existing customers (presumably fixe line also)
All of these MVNOs should be going live by end of Q2 this year.
There was a time when I could name all the MVNOs in the UK for you quite easily, but these days it seems that pretty any service provider can go mobile, what with the enablement of MVNOs so easily. You could ask why some customers wouldn’t just go straight to the big networks for their service provision, but clearly each of the MVNOs feels they have a strong enough business plan in place. Let’s keep a look out and see if any of them appears in the news going forward!
