We’re getting the point – virtually everyone — carriers, handset makers and platform developers — will have its own app store at some point. Southern Texas regional provider Pocket Communications doesn’t want to be left out, hence it is joining the wave with its own offering. The carrier’s store is based on Qualcomm’s BREW platform, offering users a selection of applications and games, along with other mobile content such as ringtones, backgrounds and wallpapers.
Since Pocket Communications isn’t actually known to carry high-end smartphone portfolio, I wonder whether apps and games in their catalog can work across the handsets they offer. Or are they just targeting users with mid-range devices?
In related news, we recently talked how Pocket Communications is partnering with Leap Wireless’ Cricket to better serve users in the area. As we speculated then, it seemed like Cricket is adding value to its shareholders as it prepares to merge or be acquired by MetroPCS. We’ll be watching this space closely, so stay tuned…
