Samsung announces i550 with 3.2 megapixel camera – takes cues from Sony Ericsson

Samsung i550Samsung is really going at it these days. New devices are being launched every day, it seems. The latest mobile phone from Samsung seems to be taking some advantage of the company’s newly minted relationship with Ericsson – the Samsung i550 looks to be taking design cues from  Sony Ericsson.

With a 3.2 megapixel camera, GPS, HSDPA (3.6Mbps), FM radio, 128MB RAM, microSD card slot, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, this Symbian S60 device sounds like a winner. We’re not sure of the quality of that 3.2 megapixel shooter, but, being a Samsung, it can’t be half bad – although we doubt it can compare to Nokia’s and Sony Ericsson’s lenses.

We can’t quite figure out why Samsung would use the i550 model name for this new handset – the SGH-i550 was a Palm OS-based flip phone, a completely different animal altogether. We can’t make heads or tails of this one, but the i550 has popped up on various French and Russion-language sites, so we’re going to take this one with a grain of salt.

Keep reading for the complete spec list.

  • 3.2 mega pixel camera
  • built in GPSSymbian OS S60
  • 3G and HSDPA (3.6 Mbps)
  • 2.6 inch display
  • dedicated keys for GPS/music player/internet
  • FM radio
  • 3.5 mm jack
  • 128 MB RAM
  • microSD support
  • microUSB
  • measures 115x53x13.8 mm

It’s definitely a break from Samsung’s design philosophy, but we like it – it’s pretty.
