Wolfram Alpha wakes up, lowers iPhone app cost 96%

I dig Wolfram Alpha. It’s a good tool for showing me how screwed Palm is or telling me when the robots will rise up, but these guys were out of their minds charging $50 for an iPhone and iPod Touch app. Now, they’ve come to their senses and lowered the price to $1.99.

To be fair, the Wolfram Alpha guys did only charge $20 for its computational search engine over the holidays and the algorithm does have over twenty years of work put in it. Not only have they created a sensible entry point, the company will also be refunding the difference for anyone who paid the full price for the app. This is big because Apple already took its 30% cut from those sales, so Wolfram Alpha is just eating those costs to gain market share.
