In case you haven’t caught on by now, I’m pretty excited about the iPad. I’m especially excited about it’s gaming potential, which you probably knew already from my last two articles. I’m going to keep the iPad gaming train a-rollin’, but this time, we’ll be looking at an app that isn’t an official app, but it’s still pretty cool nonetheless.
The app that’s running on the iPad above is called Snes4iphone. The emulator was originally created to run on the iPhone, but its developer just had to try it out on his iPad.
I just got my iPad and the first thing I did was install a build of snes4iphone made specifically for non-jailbroken iDevices. This is the video of the first test. I have 2x scale enabled on the iPad to make it full screen, and I enabled smooth scaling in the emulator. I’m playing Super Mario Kart on my iPad and it looks, sounds, and plays great! This is going to be amazing.
It’s a shame old-school gamers will never see this kind of app on the App Store due to a number of copyright infringements and it’s a shame since Nintendo doesn’t even acknowledge Apple’s devices as viable gaming platforms, also the fact they have their own consoles to worry about pretty much guarantees we’ll never see such an emulator come straight from them.
I guess all we can do is sit back and watch this video and dream.
