Flo TV adds time-shifting, pay-per-day access

In a solid strategic move, Flo TV said it is adding the ability to time-shift your content and pay-per-access for the mobile television service.

One of the main draws of Flo TV is that it provides a really good mobile TV experience but it can be a bit too costly for my liking and no one really does appointment viewing on their mobile phone. Time-shifting is a natural cure to the second problem, as you’ll be able to store programming on your device to watch later, even if you’re out of the coverage area.

I could see myself using the pay-per-day plan if I’m stuck at an airport or something because I could get my stories without having to sign up for a long-term commitment. I’m still asking Flo TV how much the per-day fee will be but I’m sure it will be reasonable (I’d say $3 for 24 hours is stomach-able).

“Our innovative, nationwide multicast network is at the heart of this of this solution and will allow us to distribute live mobile TV and rich mobile media services to a range of new devices – from smartbooks to e-readers and tablets,” said Bill Stone, presidet of Flo TV, in a prepared statement.

The company also said it is adding interactive elements to shows and advertisers. This will let you get more info on a show, as well buy an advertised product. While I think an integrated solution in the phone will be the ultimate future of Flo TV, it is also doing some interesting things with accessories. Check out the Mophie TV pack for the iPhone below for a good example.
