Although we still wait to see the winners of India’s 3G auction, the country’s government is already looking forward to selling off radio spectrum for LTE networks. According to the Hindustan Times which quoted Communications Minister A. Raja, the sale of LTE spectrum could come as soon as this year, once the 3G operators start rolling out their networks,
“We have already delayed the auction of 3G spectrum due to various reasons that were beyond my control. I do not want any delay in 4G services. We should be with rest of the world in 4G,” Raja said.
He went on to add that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has already started pre-consultation process of 4G spectrum auction. And TRAI submits its recommendations, the government will work on it.
India’s 3G license auction is expected to last a couple of weeks, and will be followed by a BWA/WiMAX spectrum auction immediately after it finishes.
