It hasn’t been a whole 24 hours, and we now got word that the LG Aloha will be renamed to the LG Ally, and will be heading to Verizon in May. We’ve hear a lot of this device lately. Just yesterday we heard that LG’s first Snapdragon Android device would be heading to Verizon this Summer.
I’ve already said what I have to say about this device, and the name change doesn’t sound amazing. Maybe this is a different branch of the Droid line that Verizon is pushing out, because the Droid Ally has absolutely no ring to it. The device kind of looks like a mess. Maybe that’s being a little too harsh, but it lacks most of the sleekness than any other previous Verizon Android device. Even the Motorola Devour looks better than this thing – to me, at least.
I’m all for getting another QWERTY Android device in the mix, but I’m wondering who the LG Ally is going to be marketed towards? It doesn’t have the look to appeal to everyone, but it seems too powerful to be another Eris, or Devour – Verizon’s less flashy, cheaper, Android devices. These aren’t bad phones, but they haven’t received anywhere near the advertising as the flagship Droid. It will also be interesting to see how the Ally is marketed, as it sits right in between the Motorola Droid and the Droid Incredible. It’s a little better than the Motorola Droid, but not enough to take the crown from the Incredible, and maybe that’s exactly what Verizon is going for. It also brings up the question of how much the Ally will cost. I’d project that the Ally will cost somewhere near $150.
LG Ally, Droid Ally, whatever you may be called, I know I’ve been harsh on you. Just don’t fail to impress us when you make your debut in May. We’ll be sure to put this thing through its paces when the time comes.
