Maryland man runs out of prepaid mobile phone credit, calls cops and tells lies to get ride home

Here’s a story that we’ll be filing under “wtf is wrong with people”:

A man in Maryland who was using a prepaid mobile phone ran out of credit. When that happens you can’t call/text anyone, except emergency numbers. He dialed 911, fabricated a story about being mugged, and then asked for a ride home. Police say the facts he gave them didn’t really line up, and later the man admitted that yes, he lied just to get a lift.

Charges against him are pending. Why he couldn’t just stick out his thumb like every other hitchhiker in history to ever roam the planet is beyond me.
