Adobe Announces HTML5 Creative Suite Extension

You might remember Steve Jobs’ punchline for his lengthy open letter to Adobe regarding why Flash was wrong for the iPhone:

Perhaps Adobe should focus more on creating great HTML5 tools for the future, and less on criticizing Apple for leaving the past behind.

Well, what do you know – a few weeks later, and Adobe announces an HTML5 and CSS3 package for Dreamweaver in Creative Suite 5. Sure, it might stand to reason that Adobe would have done something like this anyway, especially since they were never really against HTML5 so much as they were for Flash, but the timing just seems all too convenient. On the same day as the extension announcement, I got a deliciously ironic e-mail (above) from Apple pimping out CS5, the very tool they banned from creating iPhone apps; now that it’s supporting web developers to create iPhone-friendly pages, though, Apple has plenty reason to promote the package.

At this point, the whole situation seems altogether hilarious, like Apple kicked Adobe in the crotch, and is now giving them a peck on the cheek.

To download the Dreamweaver CS5 HTML Pack, head over to the Labs.
