We love it when the big boys decide to play nice and actually do the right thing (cough, Qualcomm, cough). Matsushita is owning up to their fleet of faulty BL-5C batteries and covering the cost of Nokia’s entire battery recall.
The 46 million Nokia phones that require battery replacement will run Matsushita anywhere between ¥10 billion and ¥20 billion ($86 million and $172 million). The company isn’t just covering the cost of the batteries, but will also be repaying Nokia for the expenses accrued by setting up call centers and other logistical costs.
As we mentioned before, hit up Nokia’s battery serial number checker to find out if you’ll be contributing to the dent in Matsushita’s wallet. Or, if you’re in India, you can check via SMS text – like we talked about here.
