It’s finally happened. Not even a day after we brought you that hardware unlock solution for the iPhone (from geohot), the intrepid iPhone hackers over at iPhoneSIMfree.com announced their full software unlock solution for the Apple iPhone. Unlike geohot’s hardware unlock, there are no risky circuit solders to deal with – an unlock iPhone is just a few mouse clicks away.
We knew the software solution was on the way, but we had no idea that we’d have an actual, working method so soon. Engadget got their hands on a preview copy of the unlocking software, and they can confirm that the unlock is 100% functional – everything works perfectly, with the exception of AT&T’s proprietary Visual Voicemail feature. The Engadget test-iPhone was freed from AT&T’s evil grasp and signed on to the T-Mobile network.
The iPhoneSIMfree.com software unlock is restore resistant, but we’ll have to wait and see if Apple will be able to update the iPhone in such a way as to render this unlock solution useless.
