As more and more people use smartphones, the threat of mobile malware is growing. Hence, we have virtually every anti-virus maker “going mobile” in one way or another. McAfee, which already makes security software for various platforms, Windows Mobile and Android included, doesn’t want to miss the ride. Hence, they decided to strengthen its offering with the acquisition of mobile security company – Trust Digital.

McLean, Virginia-based Trust Digital is used by companies to secure data that travels through mobile networks.

McAfee said the acquisition will extend its business into the mobile market, especially as employees increasingly use smartphones for work.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. All we know is that the deal is expected to close by June 30.

In related news, Marin recently talked about Symantec’s plans to release Norton security products for smartphones and other connected devices. Norton Smartphone Security Beta for Android will be available later this month and will not only provide anti-malware protection, but also some other features such as remote lock and wipe.
