Nokia: The new game plan

Gamasutra did an interview with Nokia (NYSE: NOK)’s Gregg Sauter about the future of the company’s mobile game strategy. It seems that nokia will soon release the new “game optimized devices” that feature landscape-oriented screens, game controls, and so forth. Also, as a result of the Nokia and ATI partnership, some of these devices will feature ATI hardware video acceleration. Furthermore, this will temporarily mean the bifurcation of the platform between accelerated and non-accelerated games.

Sony Ericsson M600i in the UKThe slick and stylish Sony Ericsson M600 is available in the UK. The flagship UIQ 3 device can be purchased from Expansys for 414.95 GBP, which is roughly 766 USD or 607 EUR.

As you may recall, M600takes full advantage of its UMTS capabilities with fast and easy email handling and high bandwidth multimedia downloads. Document handling offers and PowerPoint, Word and Excel editors and an Adobe PDF viewer. M600 comes in two colors – Granite Black and Crystal White.

S60 3rd Edition SDK MR for Symbian OS, for C++

The S60 SDK for Symbian OS enables application development for devices based on S60 platform using C++. The SDK is based on S60 3rd Edition platform and Symbian OS 9.1. The SDK includes all key functionalities needed for application development (documentation, API reference, emulator) excluding IDE.

New film recorded with Nokia N90

New Love MeetingsNew Love Meetings“, the new feature-length (93-minute) documentary on love and sex, will be shoot with a standard cell phone camera. Well, not exactly standard – it’s Nokia (NYSE: NOK) N90, a smartphone with Carl-Zeiss 2 megapixel video camera.

The movie is created as a modern version of the 1965 documentary “Love Meetings” by Pier Paolo Pasolini and is the first feature film to be entirely shot with mobile phone.

Low costs (project cost only a few thousand dollars) and greater flexibility were among the reasons why authors decided to use a cell phone… CNN has a complete story.

NTT DoCoMo FOMA F902iS

The NTT DoCoMo’s FOMA F902iS is the 32nd Symbian device shipped in Japan (yes, I still count) and is manufactured by Fujitsu (OTCPK: FJTSY).

Like SH902iS and D902iS, the F902iS is also a part of DoCoMo’s “9 Series” and has such features as music player, extensive data security, remote control of A/V equipment, compatibility with 1.7GHz bandwidth, transferring contents to external memory and more. Plus, this is the only phone in “9 Series” so far, which is compatible with Windows Media Audio. Read the full article »

Nokia Podcasting released

Nokia (NYSE: NOK) has released a beta version of their new Podcasting application. The application is mainly designed for Nokia N91 music phone, but it works on other S60 3rd Edition devices as well.

Nokia PodcastingUsing the Nokia Podcasting, user can search, subscribe and download podcasts and video podcasts (vlogs). In case of vlogs, Real Player is used for video reproduction. Supported formats include MP3, WMA (on Nseries), AAC, AAC+, MP4, M4A, 3GP, RA, and RV.

Application can use WLAN or GPRS/WCDMA packet data to download podcasts to your phone.

Finanz for UIQ 3 devices coming soon

Kylom, a developer of productivity software for Symbian phones, announced that it will soon release the UIQ 3 version of its popular business and finance assistant, Finanz. The new version will keep all the existing features and will work on new Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) smartphones.

Antony Pranata, a software engineer and an author of the well-known Screenshot 2.0 for Symbian OS S60 3rd Edition, compiled a list of top 10 free S60 applications. It’s compelling, as there are so much you can do with these free tools. Yes, there are even games on the list, but also some very usable tools, which you’ll find yourself using on a daily basis (I know I was). Online printing in Hong Kong

CSL’s 1O1O and One2Free customers will get a fully integrated mobile online printing service which offers a simple and straightforward way for their customers to order prints of images they have captured with the Nokia N80 multimedia device.

Nokia press to print solution makes ordering prints of photos taken with a camera phone extremely easy and simple. With the solution preinstalled in their Nokia N80, the online printing service enables CSL customers to order multiple uncompressed high-quality prints directly from the Nokia N80, over the cellular network, with no need for a PC or a separate photo printer. Users can access the service from the Nokia N80’s Gallery, select the images they want to be printed, insert an address and press Order prints. The images are transferred over the mobile network, and the user can go on with using the device for other needs. The order is then processed by Stereo, a renowned printing solution house and prints will be delivered to the supplied address and the order will be charged on the customer’s mobile bill.
