As a handset maker and telecommunications equipment provider where would Asterisk fit into the scheme of things? I ask because Nokia has an open source department, the web browser being the application they’re most known for, who might want to poke around and see if they can make Asterisk easier for corporations and even carriers to implement.

I might be off base here since I don’t know if this is a market Nokia is pursing, which is why I want to know: What does Nokia think of Asterisk and where does it fall in the grand scheme of things?

An article entitled "Asterisk an under-appreciated Open Source Success Story" over at O’Reilly was the inspiration for this post.

I certainly don’t know what they think. However, I think any and all telecom companies should be thinking seriously about Asterisk. It is gaining some major steam and this will continue in 2007.

Well, my E60 does work well with asterisk. The e60 didn’t work with Gizmo/Sipphone and a bunch of other VOIP services.

Perhaps that’s less of a testament to Nokia’s support as much as Asterisk’s configurability.

let’s se if a nokia official will chime in on here ;)

Heh, makes me think about our telecom installer here… they sold us an iPABX with an IVS, plenty of licenses, all this very expensive… Every time I talk about asterisk, they simply go silent like if I said a bad word… I think they are getting worried for their marketshare… :-)
