Realme has launched the P4R in India, a budget smartphone that packs an enormous 8,000mAh battery into a device priced from Rs 18,999. The phone also includes a 6.8-inch HD+ display with 144Hz refresh rate, MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor, and 50MP AI camera.
The P4R joins Realme’s battery-focused P series lineup, which previously made headlines with the P4 Power’s 10,001mAh battery. This latest model sits below the P4 Lite in the company’s hierarchy and directly targets users who need extreme battery life for long commutes, outdoor activities, or areas with limited charging access.
The smartphone industry has seen growing demand for longer battery life as users increasingly rely on their devices for work, entertainment, and communication throughout the day. While most manufacturers focus on faster charging speeds, Realme is doubling down on raw battery capacity to differentiate itself in the competitive budget segment.
Realme offers the P4R in three storage configurations:
- 4GB RAM + 128GB storage: Rs 18,999
- 6GB RAM + 128GB storage: Rs 20,999
- 6GB RAM + 256GB storage: Rs 22,999
The device comes in Titanium Glare, Silver Glare, and Lavender Glare color options. Realme claims the 8,000mAh battery can last up to three days on a single charge, which would be remarkable if achieved in real-world usage.
The phone supports 45W fast charging and reverse charging capabilities. While 45W isn’t the fastest charging speed available today, the massive battery capacity means users won’t need to charge frequently. This setup puts the P4R in direct competition with phones like the OnePlus Nord CE6 Lite, which features a smaller 7,000mAh battery.
Under the hood, the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset handles processing duties. This budget-oriented processor pairs with up to 14GB of Dynamic RAM (combining physical and virtual memory) and 256GB of internal storage. The virtual RAM feature should help with multitasking and everyday app switching, though intensive gaming or heavy applications might push the processor to its limits.
The display measures 6.8 inches with HD+ resolution and LCD technology. While many competitors now offer Full HD+ AMOLED screens, Realme includes a 144Hz refresh rate and 1,200 nits peak brightness to improve the viewing experience. The high refresh rate should make scrolling and animations feel smoother, even with the lower resolution.
Camera specifications include a 50MP AI-powered main sensor on the back and a 2MP front-facing camera. Both cameras support Motion Photo features, and Realme has included several AI photography tools:
- AI Eraser 2.0 for removing unwanted objects
- AI Ultra Clarity for sharper images
- AI Unblur for fixing blurry photos
- AI Portrait Glow for enhanced selfies
Additional features include a 5,300mm² vapor chamber cooling system, Military Grade durability certification, and IP65 water and dust resistance. An AI Pulse Light LED indicator on the back provides notification alerts.
The P4R ships with Realme UI 7.0 and comes with a promise of two major Android updates plus three years of security patches. This software support timeline matches what many competitors offer in the budget segment.
At Rs 18,999, the P4R represents Realme’s bet that a significant portion of budget smartphone buyers will prioritize battery life over premium features like AMOLED displays or flagship processors. The phone makes sense for users who spend long hours away from charging points or simply want to eliminate battery anxiety from their daily routine.
The success of this approach will depend on whether the three-day battery claim holds up in real-world usage and if buyers are willing to accept compromises in display quality and processing power for exceptional battery life.
