This just absolutley blew my mind:

OpenMoko

The specs aren’t that great, but this phone isn’t about the specs. They’re launching an open source platform on open hardware! Here is hoping these guys actually get something done worth buying. I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on them because Nokia is a huge company and thus are slow to react to my needs. If I have an idea and post it to this blog, the chances of someone at Nokia actually sitting down and thinking about it are slim and none. They are a huge company and I understand that. A small group of Linux geeks however … you can go from concept to working code within a very very short amount of time. I feel like a kid in a candy store!

yeah, this is quite interesting. and so is trolltech’s greenphone, even though the targets are quite different(greenphone cost 700$ and it’s inteneded for developers, fic is aprox. 350& unlocked, colud be sord of a linux mass market phone, could be subsidized in asia, although i doubt it). by the way, the greenphone open source sdk just started shipping after they solved some licensing issues.
