TECNO CAMON Slim: a 6.39mm phone that doubles as a mood light and AI assistant

Phone makers have been chasing razor-thin designs for years, but most sacrifice battery life or camera quality to get there. TECNO is trying to break that pattern with its latest release.

The company announced the CAMON Slim on June 22, 2026, a smartphone that measures just 6.39mm thick while still carrying a 6,000mAh battery, a 50MP Sony sensor, and what TECNO claims is the most varied AI mood lighting system on any phone right now.

The CAMON Slim sits in TECNO’s broader push to compete on design and AI features in emerging markets across Asia, Africa, and beyond. The brand operates in over 70 countries, and the CAMON line has long been its camera-focused flagship series. This new model raises the stakes on both aesthetics and daily utility.

A design that actually tries to stand out

The 6.39mm body uses a 3D-curved unibody construction with a symmetrical layout. The camera module is runway-shaped, and its curves mirror the rounded corners of the phone itself. It feels like a considered design choice rather than an afterthought.

The back panel comes in five colorways, each using a different material or optical technique:

  • New Mondrian uses a photochromic process. Under UV light, yellow, green, and cyan blocks appear from a white base, recreating the Mondrian grid pattern.
  • Prism Black and Jungle Green use a 3D crystal diamond pattern with reflective optics. Move the phone and the surface shifts like shimmering facets.
  • Van Gogh Blue prints a version of “The Starry Night” on the back, with swirling effects that appear to move as light changes.
  • Burgundy Red combines glass fiber with a matte texture for a tactile, understated finish.

These aren’t just color options. Each one represents a distinct manufacturing process, which is unusual at this price tier.

The mood light system is genuinely different

The back panel has 354 mini LED lights arranged to produce 55 different lighting scenes. This isn’t a single notification ring. The lights respond to specific events:

  • Incoming calls and messages
  • Game launches
  • Charging status
  • Custom animations like a blinking eye or a smiling face

Users can configure which events trigger which patterns. It’s a feature that will either appeal to you immediately or not at all, but there’s nothing quite like it elsewhere in the market at this scale.

Camera hardware built around low-light performance

The main camera uses a 50MP Sony LYTIA 600 sensor with a 1/2-inch sensor size. That’s a meaningful spec. Larger sensors gather more light, which directly improves performance in dim conditions. TECNO pairs this with its own night scene algorithm to manage highlights and recover color detail in tricky lighting.

The phone also includes AI-driven motion detection that estimates the best moment to fire the shutter and compensates for hand shake or subject movement. The goal is usable photos without manual effort.

On the front, a 32MP camera with a 92.4-degree wide-angle lens handles selfies and group shots. The imaging pipeline runs through TECNO Universal Tone, the company’s skin tone processing system that draws on what it describes as the industry’s largest skin tone database.

AI tools aimed at real tasks

The CAMON Slim includes a range of AI features designed for daily use rather than demos. A few worth noting:

  • AI Snap Poster lets small business owners photograph a product, strip the background, and place it into a themed scene like a kitchen or beach setting. Instant product photography without a studio.
  • AI Recording Notes transcribes lectures or meetings and syncs whiteboard photos to the correct moment in the audio.
  • AI Healthy Eating analyzes food photos and estimates calories and nutritional content.
  • AI Class Schedule reads a photographed timetable, color-codes courses, and displays them as a widget.
  • AI Football provides live match predictions, goal alerts, and a feature that places the user in a virtual photo alongside professional players.

Many of these tools appear on the zero screen, meaning they’re accessible before unlocking the phone. The AI Writing tool works wherever a text field appears and handles everything from social posts to formal documents.

Hardware specs and durability

Despite the 6.39mm profile, the CAMON Slim carries a 6,000mAh battery, which TECNO says is the largest in any smartphone this thin. Battery capacity may vary by market. The company also claims the battery holds at least 80% of its original capacity after 2,000 charge cycles, which works out to roughly five years of daily charging.

Other specs include:

  • 1.5K AMOLED display running at 144Hz
  • IP69 and IP68 water and dust resistance, rated for underwater photography
  • High-brightness panel tuned for outdoor visibility and eye comfort

The IP69 rating is the higher of the two and covers high-pressure water jets, not just submersion. That’s a spec more commonly found on rugged devices than slim consumer phones.

Pricing and availability

TECNO hasn’t set a global launch price. Availability and pricing will be announced market by market. Buyers in select regions will also get a three-month trial of Google AI Plus with 2TB of storage at no extra cost, subject to eligibility terms.
