After the press conference there was a Q&A session. One of the questions asked was "Did you run out of numbers? Wasn’t there already a 6110?"

I never really thought about it, until right now.

Google turns this up:

61101

The father of S60, Christian Lindholm, has this to say:

The Nokia 6110 Navigator, was launched a mid range monoblock, with built-in GPS, HSDPA, which means that it will have a fast processor. Spec from a man on the street it is not super far from N95. The 6110 number is a sacred number at Nokia, so they plan to sell alot of them.

Why is that number so sacred? Why use it twice?

I’m sure someone from Nokia PR will tell me that the full name of the device is the "Nokia 6110 Navigator." My question still stands, why use the same number?

I could be wrong, Stefan, but I believe the 6110 was the first GSM phone? I know that they had a version of that model (There were 3-4 versions of that exact phone just with different spec) that was their first GSM.

Plus, I also think it’s sacred cause they sold a boat load of the 61xx phones (it was one of their more or less most popular phones back in the 90s. i miss those days. but not as much as i miss my 8260 (smallest little phone i’ve ever had).

Ricky you are off about 4 years. Nokia’s first GSM phone was the Nokia 1011.

The 6110 is the first Nokia phone to have Snake!
