The irony that is Wednesday

Statistically speaking, I get the most traffic on Wednesday.

The problem: I’m swamped with classes on Wednesday.

What is a blogger to do?

I know I shouldn’t even be looking at my RSS reader right now, but my information addiction always gets the best of me. There is a lot of stuff I want to put up, but it will have to wait until later tonight or even tomorrow; depends how strong the coffee is.

This morning my heart sank as I went to reach for my laptop at the side of my bed and discovered that my DSL was down.

Disconnection is uncomfortable. In an earlier post I said that the network is something we all take for granted. People like Bernard keep it running smoothly so that people like me can connect to curious minds such as yourselves. Thank you Bernard for doing what you do.

I have broadband on campus and my DSL is never down for more than a few hours at a time either so it should be up and atom by the time I get home tonight.

Back to the topic of blogging, I want to address the series I created a while ago: "Made in Finland." I said I would post an installment twice a week and sadly after the first one went up there haven’t been any more volumes. Time is not on my side and I apologize for that blunder.

If I could make blogging a full time job, I would in a heart beat. In fact I’m working on making that a reality. In the mean time however I hope you can understand that this is the best I can do. As I get closer and closer to the end of the semester (2nd week of May) the amount of free time I have will wither away. C’est la Vie!

Time to do my Organic Chemistry II lab write up; summer vacation can not come fast enough!

One more thing: I get a lot of emails telling me I’m doing a great job. Thanks for your support but I personally know I can do better. On the flip side of that coin: if you have a problem with my style or methods then leave me a comment or drop me an email. Constrictive criticism is always welcome.

Since you ask for constructive criticism, here’s something I noticed.
I just got (26 minutes ago) a N800 which I’m discovering right now, and the second site I loaded up is ringnokia.com: the N800 is choking on it to say the least! From Firefox it seems like the current ringnokia.com homepage is *several* MB in size (over 40MB of stuff, could it be?) and ironically I can read it much better with the E61 than the N800! The E61 stops loading after about 9.5MB saying “memory full” but in the process it remain usable, the N800 slows down to a crawl.

So the question: would it be possible to make the home page less heavy? I know I can use google/gwt to mangle it but the native page is much nicer…

Since more people browse my site via a desktop then a mobile device the only tip I could offer you is to use my RSS feed.

I believe in the power of RSS and the fact that people shouldn’t have to change their website to fit a mobile device.

Mobile devices should adapt to browse websites.

One more tip: Use Opera Mini. I can’t stress enough how much that tiny browser kicks ass!

    Hi Stefan,
Greetings from Helsinki and -20 C. Why couldn’t Nokia be Spanish? :)

Heh, I do only a small bit :) theres lots more experienced people than I! But glad you understood the point I was trying to make.

    With regards the criticism:

I would have to agree with Luca. the index page is a little heavy, and yes while I agree with you on suggesting people read the RSS feed, but some people (me included) like to visit the actual site too (you can get alot of information from the way the page actually looks too). Maybe you can trim down the amount of posts visible on the / page. Maybe 4-5?

The problem is when you post lots of images…thats the hog..

    rgrds,
    b.
