Redmi Turbo 5 launches in India with a massive 7,540mAh battery and Dimensity 8500 Ultra chip

Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Turbo 5 in India, and the headline spec is hard to ignore: a 7,540mAh battery. That puts it well above most phones in its class, where 5,000mAh to 6,000mAh is still considered generous. For users who are tired of carrying a power bank everywhere, this is a direct answer.

The phone also runs on the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra, a chip that sits comfortably in the upper mid-range tier. It is not flagship territory, but it handles everyday tasks, gaming, and multitasking without breaking a sweat. The combination of strong processing power and a large battery makes the Turbo 5 an easy phone to pitch to budget-conscious buyers who do not want to compromise on performance.

One thing worth noting before you get too excited: the Indian version ships with a slightly smaller battery than the Chinese model. The difference is not dramatic, but it is there, and it reflects a pattern we see often with Indian market variants of Chinese phones.

What the Redmi Turbo 5 brings to the table

The core specs of the Indian launch model shape up like this:

  • Processor: MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Ultra
  • Battery: 7,540mAh (the Chinese version had a marginally larger cell)
  • Rear cameras: Dual setup, identical to the Chinese variant

The camera system is a dual rear configuration, confirmed to match what Xiaomi shipped in China. That is a reasonable decision. Keeping the camera hardware consistent means Indian buyers get the same photo and video experience without any surprises.

Why the battery size matters so much right now

The broader smartphone market has been moving toward bigger batteries fast. Chinese brands in particular have been pushing 6,000mAh and beyond as a selling point, partly because fast charging has made large cells more practical. You can top up a 7,000mAh battery quickly enough that the size stops feeling like a burden.

Redmi positioning the Turbo 5 with a 7,540mAh cell is a clear signal that battery anxiety is now a mainstream concern, not just a niche worry. For Indian consumers who rely heavily on their phones throughout the day, often in areas with inconsistent access to charging, this kind of capacity has real practical value.

Where it fits in the market

The Redmi Turbo series has always aimed at buyers who want near-flagship specs without the near-flagship price. The Dimensity 8500 Ultra keeps the Turbo 5 competitive against phones like the OnePlus Nord and the Samsung Galaxy A-series, both of which are fighting hard for the same audience.

The slightly reduced battery compared to China is a minor footnote. At 7,540mAh, the Indian model still has more capacity than almost anything else at this price point. Whether Xiaomi prices it aggressively enough to pull buyers away from established competition will be the real test once the phone hits shelves.
