The E61i notification LED is a little bit buggy

Geekonimus (one of my most frequent commenters) and I were just having a chat about our devices, the Nokia E61i.

His notification LED works, but ceases to function after the phone has been on for a few hours. I sent myself a text message to check if my LED still works and low and behold it is defective!

A quick reboot of the device and it works wonderfully again.

This is a bug I wanted to highlight since the E61i is practically the best mobile phone I’ve ever owned. I haven’t written my review yet, but expect an article called "Nokia E61i: The i stands for incredibly close to perfection" to be published within a weeks time.

Good to know that you are going to write a review of the E61i. I’m probably going to buy one too here in Belgium (launched within 2 weeks). I’m trilled to see if it has a good agenda/calendar function and that the Wi-Fi is pretty good to surf @ free non-portable times :P

I seem to have solved the problem, for myself at least.

If you put the notification setting ‘Blink light for…’ to Unlimited, it works consistently.

Been working for every text and email notification since about 2pm today (thats about 6 hours so far). Previously it wouldnt be active for more than 2 hours at most.

  • Stefan Constantinescu

Unlimited? Mine only goes up to 2 hours.

    What firmware do you have?

    I have 1.0633.22.05

Strange, I’ve had mine for two weeks now and not noticed this problem. In fact, I know for certain that my E61i has been powered on for the last whole week and only a few minutes ago it went off when a new e-mail arrived. Same firm-ware too.

Posted from a Nokia E61i wireless device!

Lewis: do you have No Limits in your Notification settings, under ‘Blink Light For’ ? What is your phone set on?

  • Lewis McCullen

Yes, I have no limits listed at the bottom, but you have to scroll down to see it. I currently have mine set to 30 minutes and all events set to on. I just got a tm a few minutes ago and it lit up again, as it should.

I never noticed if mine does that since I usually read new messages right away.
